I have heard many describe new motherhood as the “most” of everything. For me, in my 9 short weeks of experience, being a mother has been the most beautiful, most exhausting, most testing, most hilarious, most humbling, most emotional, most transformative, most haphazard, most sacrificial, most meaningful, most intriguing journey into a new layer of my life, my marriage, and the new life God has blessed us with, our daughter Townes.

The sun is shining, the Spotify playlist is on point, the baby is giggling…[revision: crying and overtired, I actually had to come back an hour later to finish writing this.]
Regardless of Townes’s temperament, the fact that I look exactly how I did when I woke up this morning, am sleep-deprived, haven’t eaten lunch or taken care of about 5 things I thought I would have done by now (and, let’s be honest, some other personal struggles too), today is shaping up to be a great one. It’s all in my mindset….

For me, it takes an extreme level of conscientiousness to prevent time from slip-sliding away, especially as I get older and especially with an infant. In fact, one of the reasons I adore cooking lies in its inherent ability to ground me into the present moment….
